Q: I've heard wonderful reports about multifocals, but aren't they difficult to settle down to?

Q: Will my eyesight start to get worse if I start to wear glasses or contact lenses?
A: Certainly not ! From the start you'll feel a great improvement in vision with your new spectacles, and they can even help slow down further deterioration.

Q: What's the difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) ?
A: An ophthalmologist specializes in the detection and treatment of eye diseases. The optometrist's primary function is in prescribing and fitting spectacles and contact lenses. There are optometrists who specialize in eye muscle imbalances, pediatric optometry, or low vision.

Q: I've passed age 40, can I wear contact lenses?
A: There are no age limits with contacts, anyone can wear them ! Here at Optica Bloom we'll undertake a detailed examination, and fit the most appropriate type of contacts for your particular requirements- bifocals, multifocals, the new daily-wear multifocals etc.

Q: I suffer from dry eyes, does this prevent me from wearing contact lenses?
A: Today there are lenses made from material that dries out more slowly than the regular plastic, which solve the problem for all but the most extreme cases of dry eye.

Q: Can children wear contact lenses?
A: Certainly. Contacts in fact offer an excellent solution for those youngsters who hate the idea of wearing glasses. Ortho-K is ideal for young people, and research has shown that it can even slow down the progress of near sight.

Q: What are Daily contact lenses?
A: Contacts designed for one day use only. Their purpose is to avoid the problems caused by a build-up of deposits on the contacts, such as allergic reactions. There are daily lenses, two-weekly and monthly wear lenses available.

Q: .I wear contact lenses, do I still need a pair of glasses?
A: Definitely recommended. There are occasions when wearing contacts is contra-indicated - for example eye infections, when you would have to use your glasses.
